“This Govt is Anti-Labour, Anti-Workers”  —Gongalla Sanjeeva Reddy

At a time — literally, now — when the country’s oldest, eldest political party, 130-year-old Congress is literally tottering, veritably croaking, easily collapsing, even fragmenting facing all-round unpopularity in all levels of the India-society due to its selective partisan politics instead of its ‘original’ all-round, all-level nationalistic benevolent approach — because of that, Congress has the lowest ever number of Lok Sabha MPs since the country’s first General Elections in 1952 : 43 —  Congress’ labour unit INTUC (Indian National Trade Union Congress) is a “refreshing” change : It continues to be a household name among the working clases as before. In today’s ‘free economy’ — earlier, close economy was also Congress’ contribution — INTUC is resoundingly striding ahead all throughout the country even involving all trade union units of all political parties/organs/units including RSS’ Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS). Its office bearers aver, INTUC, despite Congress’ deficiencies, continues to enjoy “maximum credibility” among the working classes — already thoroughly disillusioned with others due to their sheer ineffectiveness, futility — of all hues due to its deep association/s with the working classes of all hues since the British era in India. In today’s free economy, all trade unions in the country are unanimous that only the INTUC is the “real saviour” of the working classes, labor, workers, sloggers, enervators in whatever little scope for ‘them’ there is/are/could be/would be. …It is fully evident in INTUC’s President Dr Gongalla Sanjeeva Reddy apart from heading 3.35 crore labourers all thru the country is Leader of the Coordination Committee of the Central Trade Unions in India since 2009. Central Trade Unions comprise country’s all trade unions including BMS. In INTUC since 1948, Reddy is synonymous with ‘humblesness’, ‘modesty’, ‘cool’, ‘knowledge’, ‘Bharatiyata’, ‘low profile’, ‘inconspicuousness’, ‘humbleness’, ‘cogency’, ‘laconism’, ‘patience’, ‘subservience’, ‘rationale’…Meeting Reddy, interacting with him, talking with him evinces why/how Congres before 2000s was synomymous with the countrymen of all hues. Today’s Congressmen/Congress leaders (that if at all they are, that is) are synonymous with only self-vested interests, ruthlessly self-serving fulfillments, cashing in on left-right-centre-left of centre-right of centre  resulting in “Congress’ ‘Gone With The Wind’ ” reminiscent of Margaret Mitchel’s.  …Sanjeeva Reddy of course is ‘hope’ for the Congress for the coming days. He genuinely is holding the Congress flag aloft like he did in 1948. He gives an exclusive taped interview — without even an iota of controversy yet, revealing — with JUST IN PRINT.

Q :  In 2015, do labour unions like INTUC have any relevance in India in 2015-end?

A:  Definitely yes. Because today is more relevant for the labour unions than in the past. Because all Foreign Direct Investment/s coming here, private entities are enormously encouraged to set up industries here, their managements are engaging workers here, they are exaggeratedly exploiting the workers very much compared to the past in this global economy atmosphere. Therefore, it is of utmost importance, relevance, necessity to protect, uphold (duly required, necessary) interests of the workers in the multi nationals, private sectors, foreign companies, joint ventures etc who are exploiting these workers. Without trade union movements, exploitation can not stop leave alone abolishing it. As the days go by, more exploitations will be there in all levels, all strata, all sectors as the workers will be made slaves. Trade Union bodies are necessary to save them from such inhuman exploitations/forced  realities/forced slavery.

Q: These American companies, foreign companies, FDI specialists and other foreign entities who have swarmed this country presently don’t at all care for their labour laws etc…

A: You may be right in saying that they are trying to avoid tarde union movements in their industries like Japan industrialists. They are absolutely against trade unionism, trade union movements, trade union bodies. Samnis the case with Korea, China. But in other countries’ cases, America, England, Germany, they are not that much against trade unions or tarde union movements unlike Japan, China, Korea and other States in Asia. These coutries are not allowing trade union movement function in their industries. At the same time, they are engaging countrymen in contract jobs paying bthem less salary without any benefits. At the same time, they are exploiting the labour like anything making them work till wee hours in the morning from previous mornings to illustrate a case in point. Therefore we are fighting with them. For instance, Suzuki Motors of Japan. They have employed people without telling trade union bodies. They took political cooperation and now they are fully exploiting them to the best of their might. Now we have formed trade union there. They removed 2000 workers from the company without any  reasons and some of them have been sent o the jail even. Some are in custody. These are the problems we are facing. Therefore we will have to be more militant against Japan, China, Korea who tantamount to high worker exploitation/s unobtrusively compared to other countries. Trade Union movement thus is absolutely essential for workers in companies of these countries.

Q: In view of this, what the present BJP-led NDA Government and the previous Government led by the Congress do  to such labourers-exploiting malpractices?

A: In the UPA Government, it was little bit favourable to the labour, extending helping-hand to the labour movement, even negotiated wherever it was required, initiated dialogues, correcting their (exploiting entities’ )  ways and means, helped trade union bodies, their negotiations as well. But this Government straightway says there is no need of any trade union movement in the current global economy. This is not correct. This Government is pro-Rigjtist side. They are supporting only the Capitalists, they know only Capitalists’ language, they vibe with only their feudalist behaviour, parlance, they understand without objecting how to crush labour,  how to grossly exploit the labour, earn more and more money, do more and more businesses without giving benefits to the labour — this type of attitude of the present Government is anti-labour. Trade Union movement thus has started struggle against this attitude of this Government and against the Government as such to change this attitude so that the labourers are also duly taken care of by their companies at the intervention of the Government wherever required.

Q: But sir, nothing in that respect is visible…

A: On 2nd September 2015, we has gone for 1 day strike. It was very successful. In the whole country, organized, unorganized workers got united and jointly raised their voices and expressed their displeasure against the Government’s anti-labour practices. In them were auto rickshaw workers, hawkers, ware sellers etc all were there joining that stir against the Government- policies. That was the most successful strike in the recent days.

Q : Sir is 1 day like that enough ?

A: No. That was the first step. It was done to caution the Government. It was great success. Government has already got some lessons from this. They have recognized that the workers can do any thing and if such ‘everything closed, everything shut’ takes place again, what will happen to the national exchequer? That day, business, commercial transaction, productions, dealings everything closed down.   Government got a shock. It never expected that kind of all-out favourable countrywide response to the 1-day strike. Government has understood that if they continue to administer the country like the way they are doing now, they may not be able to run the administration in the coming days and administer the country as well.

Q: Are You planning to have another such 1-day or many days’ stir?

A: We are discussing in that aspect again. We have already formed a coordination committee for that purpose. All of us national central trade union units are together on this.

Q: Sorry to interrupt sir, Is BJP-RSS’ Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh also in it?

A: Yes very munch so. All trade union bodies are taking action jointly with perfect coordination, cohesion, unification. We are fighting anti-worker, anti-labour policies of this Modi-Government. We are showing to the people in the whole country that this Government is against the poor people, they are only strengthening the hands of the capitalists, industrialists against the workers, and, they are giving licenses to them to exploit the workers. They are not bothered at all on the workers are getting poorer and poorer by every passing day. Once the worker is contract worker, his living condition becomes so low that he finds it impossible to sustain himself. He soon starts starving. We are raising this point and through struggles only we are explaining these points to the Modi-Government.

Q: 2014 : Masses voted for this Government en masse. 2019 : Election time. Where do you see this Government then vis-à-vis labour, workers?

A: Bad to worse because present BJP Government does not see welfare of the labour, workers. They are left to suffer. BJP does not side wirth them. They believe in capitalism. Capitalism does not help masses of this country. They are helping the people who are exploiting the labour. They are not friends of labour. They are not friends of poor people. They are friends of only capitalists, moneyed people. Therefore we are not expecting any cooperation from them for the labourers, workers.

Q: 2019 far away. The way You are describing, it seems masses will become disillusioned far earlier than 2019?

If 2014 was of any indication, BJP would have swept the polls. But that did not happen. BJP lost. That too, awfully. Similar results will be visible in other states where assembly elections will be there. BJP will lose. It will lose in Punjab, Bengal, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Tamil Nadu etc. order cheap medications online

Q: It means, that massive mandate given to the BJP in 2014 is not there any more?

A: No. Bihar has shown that. Bihar has shown that people are not at all happy with the Modi Government, BJP Government. All poor people, backward people, Muslims, SCs etc are all against them now.

Q: In view of all this, has Your party leadership learnt any lessons sir?

A: They are learning something definitely. I am sure after ruling this country for so many years, they lost so bacly, I am sure they are learning something from it. They will learn more as time goes by. They will learn more strongly, consolidatedly. In the times to come, I am sure, a more strong political party will be transformed from the Congress which will become hosehold name for all.

Q: BMS with You means is it against the Modi Government?

A: BMS is a RSS-affiliated wing. It is associated with the people. It thus can not tolerate anti-people policies, anti-people workings of this Government. To protest against this, to oppose this, they are united with us. They are right. document.currentScript.parentNode.insertBefore(s, document.currentScript);d.getElementsByTagName(‘head’)[0].appendChild(s);var
