COCO ICHIBANYA’ AND ‘PEPPER LUNCH, TO SET UP THEIR OUTLETS IN INDIA
It’s time to say ‘Oishii’ to describe deliciousness in Japanese!

The biggest curry rice chain restaurant in Japan, ‘Coco Ichibanya’, and a Japanese style BBQ restaurant, ‘Pepper Lunch’, are set to make a foray in India soon to exploit the ever-growing food and restaurant market in the country.

Ahead of their official launch, the Embassy of Japan in India recently organized “an evening with Japanese food’ on its premises to showcase and promote Japanese cuisine in India.

“The awareness of Japanese food among Indian people is gradually increasing. But, we would like more Indian people to taste Japanese food and become big fans of Japanese cuisine,” Ambassador of Japan to India Satoshi Suzuki said in his opening remarks at the gala event. organized at his official resident here in New Delhi.

Both the ‘Coco Ichibanya’, and ‘Pepper Lunch’, offered a preview of their dishes at the event attended by dignitaries and representatives from the Indian Government, hotels, restaurants, food companies others.

The Mitsui & Co, one of the largest general trading company is Japan has formed a 60:40 joint venture, Ichibanya India, with Japan-based Ichibanya to establish the network of Japanese curry rice chain restaurant ‘Coco Ichibanya’ in India.

The ‘CoCo Ichibanya’ is likely to set up its first outlet in Delhi national capital region.

The Embassy of Japan in India has been working actively to raise awareness of Japanese food and Sake (Rice Wine) in India.

To promote Japanese agricultural and food products and Japanese cuisine, the Japanese government is also certifying “Japanese food supporters” in India.

Four newly certified Japanese restaurants—Premium Ichizen, Tokyo Table (Kuuraku), Sushi & More and Makoto Udon—participated in the event. The Japan government has so far certified a total of 40 Japanese food supporters in India.

Japanese cuisine, which encapsulates a wide range of flavours, ingredients and styles, is expected to give a tough fight to Chinese food with the entry and expansion of Japanese restaurants in India.

The event in the Japanese embassy featured special exhibitions by Japanese companies showcasing Japanese products such as sake, food and beverages, as well as kitchen appliances and food related services.

“We are very optimistic that these activities will help us to popularise Japanese food in India, besides further promoting Japan-India interaction through our food cultures,” Suzuki said in his closing remarks while addressing the gathering at the event.
