The Union Government in the Ministry of Law and Justice is developing a National Judicial Grid to make details of cases and judgments readily available on real-time basis to any person anywhere. This is intended to help in avoiding duplication in work and saving time and money of the courts and litigants.
According to the Law Ministry, out of 24 High Courts across the country, 21 High Courts have been linked on the National Judicial Grid. Only three High Courts of Delhi, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh are left out of this Grid. These three High Courts will be included in the National Judicial Grid at the earliest.
Official sources in the Department of Justice revealed that as of now, 95 lakh judgments of the High Courts have been put on the National Judicial Grid of India. It has been planned that people including litigating public, Bench and Bar will be able to access 4.5 crore cases of High Courts, already decided, on the Grid when it is fully functional.
It is believed that in the long run, the subordinate judiciary will also be brought on the Grid as well.
The National Judicial Grid of India, when fructified, will benefit the Central and State Governments, people in all walks of social-economic activities, businesses and others take sound decisions in keeping with the time tested judicial scale of justice, equity and fair-play without fear and favour to avoid uncalled for litigations. This will also help in expediting cases, clear confusion in interpreting judgments and judicial pronouncements.
One hopes, the National Judicial Grid will also help minimize the menace of the prevailing Bench-Bar nexus in ensuring expeditious, cost effective and time bound justice!
