HARRIS IS NOW FRONTRUNNER AGAINST TRUMP AS POLL FEVER IN US PICKS UP
FIRST WOMAN BLACK PRESIDENTIAL CONTENDER REJUVENATES DNC CAMPAIGN
United States Vice President Kamala Harris gave her okay to be the Democratic presidential candidate after praising herself, her mother and briefly her Jamaican father, too, though her husband Douglas Emhoff got the first mention with President Joe Biden a close second. If elected, Kamala Harris will shatter former President Donald Trump’s dream of a second coming to the White House.
Kamala spoke on Thursday in her acceptance speech of her journey from the “Courthouse to the White House” and she could be the first American President with an Indian mother. Kamala’s mother Shymala
married a Jamaican and the pronunciation K-A-M-A-L-A with the Reggae-lilt could be because of her Jamaican father Donald J. Harris, the other Donald J in Kamala’s life.
Do Doug, Joe and Tim (Walz) know that K-A-M-A-L-A is actually ‘Kamala’, derivative for ‘Lotus’ in many Indian languages, also the election symbol of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party? To be sure, Donald Trump will keep taunting Kamala for her Indian and Jamaican heritage and Donald Trump is a terrier who never lets go.
There is this belief that South Asian Indians are interested in the American President’s polls this time only because of the Indian names ‘Usha’ and ‘Kamala’ in the fray, Usha being Trump’s running mate JD Vance’s life-mate. The moot point is Donald Trump, who was stomping President Joe Biden’s nose into the ground, is struggling with Kamala Harris or so say the media.
Kamala has the mainstream media’s back – the Washington Post, New York Times, CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, Boston Globe, all of them falling over each other to give Kamala Harris positive press while branding Trump ‘The Dictator’. To the extent, the Trump tornado has slowed to a Category ‘D’ storm and Kamala the hurricane has swept Trump far out to sea, where the only waves are the sea waves.
The Democrats have found their Cleopatra and Harris will likely be the first woman and woman-black President of the United States of America. Trump at a recent election rally told a cheering crowd of Republicans that he was better looking than Kamala. This, after somebody called Kamala “Beautiful”.
Trump’s thin-skinned vanity and narcissism couldn’t take this lying down. Kamala need not worry, she’s going to get a lot of this in her face in the weeks before November, starting with the Trump-Harris debates. Trump goes into them with a victory over Joe Biden.
The talk of the town is Kamala did not have a policy platform to end the convention with. Kamala – leftist with progressive values – along with running mate Tim Walz are clubbed together as China-friendly. Particularly Walz, who holds the American record for the most number of China visits by an American politician – 30 trips including one which had to do with his wedding ring finger.
Kamala accepted the nomination “on behalf of everyone whose story could only be written in the greatest nation on earth”. Kamala left her policy positions for the future. The story going around is that Kamala has stage-fright and Trump will leave her trembling. The opposite view is Kamala displays the kind of pragmatism that Trump lacks. She could unite all Americans behind her “new way forward” platform while Trump is the sort of “dangerous unserious man” who, if elected again, could alter American democracy beyond repair. This is the rhetoric which left Narendra Modi floundering. Harris knows attacking Trump is the best way forward for her.
And she did this with the prosecutor’s eye and voice. Kamala Harris’s “Courthouse to the White House” address took Trump-bashing to a serious high. Sitting at home, Trump heard every word of what Kamala spoke and he replied in short missives on his social media platform Truth Social.
Despite what the mainstream says and writes, Trump is not gonna be a stomp-over for Kamala Harris. Kamala will find it difficult defending her immigration stand and though she gave Israel a friendly eye, she still has to keep a lookout for the disgruntled Palestinian-friendly Americans of whom there are plenty in the Democratic Party. The American Presidential Election this time will be fought on the issues of reproductive rights, the Southern Border and “protecting democracy”.
Kamala Harris has a very poor record on immigrants pouring into America through the southern border. The flow of illegal immigrants has never gone so unchecked. And “health of democracy” is not Donald Trump’s
responsibility alone. The voting in the 2020 presidential election was more or less 50:50 even if the mainstream western media to this day qualifies all reports on the 2020 elections with “Trump’s baseless charge”.
“With this election, our nation has a precious, fleeting opportunity to move past the bitterness, cynicism and divisive battles of the past,” Kamala said in her unifying message. “A chance to chart a new way forward. Not as members of any one party or faction, but as Americans.”
This lady who claimed she’s “no stranger to unlikely journeys” was told by her Indian mother to “never do anything half-assed”. Trump stands in the way of a pioneering woman of colour who could become the first female President of the United States. “I will not cozy up to tyrants and terrorists, like Kim Jong-un, who are rooting for Trump,” she said and Trump on Truth Social replied with “The tyrants are laughing at her, she’s
weak and ineffective.” Trump wants to be President again is the biggest stumbling block in Kamala Harris’s path to the presidency.
